Flâneurs workshop

27 & 28 February 2026, Muziekhuis, Utrecht

Flâneurs is a two day multidisciplinary workshop by architect and composer
Murat Ali Cengiz

The concept of the flâneur, as described by Charles Baudelaire, is a passionate observer of modern urban life: a wanderer who traverses the city and experiences its sounds and sights with an engaged yet reflective stance. This figure approaches the vibrant city as a complex poem that can be read. The role of the flâneur is not a passive activity, but a conscious practice of attentive looking and listening—both part of the crowd and hidden within it—transforming observations into artistic and intellectual expression.

The project invites the public to rediscover Utrecht through walking, drawing, and music. The workshop culminates in a collaboration with a professional saxophonist, Giusseppe Doronzo (ITA), who will interpret the participants' compositions and will perform them during the public concert at Muziekhuis, Utrecht (27.02.26)
